Liberal tax policy announcement bad news for workers, good news for millionaires

The Liberal’s recently announced tax policy would mean that workers on average income would be worse off, while the highest income earners would receive massive tax cuts, an ACTU analysis has shown.

In a sign that the ‘real’ Tony Abbott is finally emerging, middle –income earners on $43 000 would pay $184 a year more tax under the Liberal’s proposed tax policy, while a millionaire would get a tax cut of a whopping $15 000 per year.

AMWU National Secretary, Dave Oliver, says that this shows where the Liberal Party’s priorities lie.

“With this tax policy announcement, Tony Abbott has shown that he’s not interested in the financial welfare of Australian workers.

“Abbott’s allegiances lie with the big end of town, with the big mining corporations and fat-cat executives. This tax policy makes that painfully clear.

“By comparison, the Labor Party has a tax plan that will see our community get a fairer share of the wealth from our national resources, fund better infrastructure, make tax simpler for the average Australian worker, and help Australians save for their future through tax cuts on bank interest and increases to superannuation”, he said.
